Greenland Ice Cap

Animals

The Greenland ice sheet greets you with white expanses and freezing winds — as if you have landed on another planet. Thick ice blankets nearly the entire surface of the island. Glaciers move slowly toward the ocean. Enormous icebergs calve and drift in the water. A fierce wind sweeps across the icy expanse. Snow reflects the sunlight with blinding brilliance. Temperatures remain low almost throughout the entire year. Summer is brief and cold.

Winter is long and harsh. Crevasses in the ice create deep chasms. Polar bears can be encountered along the ice edges. Seals rest upon floating ice floes. A cold ocean surrounds the ice sheet. The sky is often crisp, clear, and bright. Animals are remarkably adapted to the cold. The ecosystem is fragile and unique.

The landscape appears as an endless realm of ice. Greenland feels like a world of ice — impressive, isn't it?
